Superstars using AI
I try to stay out of the “AI is awesome vs AI is shit” debate. I figured a while ago that while people are still thinking AI is shit I’ll just gain an advantage by becoming an expert in using it. Like I said, I’m an AI-maxer. Still though, when I come across certain things, I think about how people could actually still think AI has no use. Here are two experts in their field talking about AI. The first quote is from Dr. Dre:
“I had a discussion with a few people a few days ago,” Dre told the Times. “They were against AI and I’m like, ‘OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.’ Or synthesizers, right? It’s a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things.” Dre also acknowledged that he is using AI in his own music, explaining that he views the technology “as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did.” “I’m embracing it. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with this,” he added.
— Dr. Dre
Nobody would argue that Dr. Dre is not a superstar. He is an artist that has reached incredible heights in his career. He’s used his creativity to make art for the past 30 years. And here he is embracing AI. The next quote is from Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux:
I'd like to call it my tireless helper, but the AI several times stated flat out that this was impossible and unsolvable and that we should just write a report about it. I suspect those things have been trained by people who may not be quite as stubborn as I am. But while the AI was ready to give up several times, it did keep adding debug code and analyzing it faithfully when I pushed. So credit where credit is due and I let the AI write the commit message above.
— Linus Torvalds
Linus is using AI to help him code. Possibly the greatest coder of our time. And he has embraced AI. Again, I don’t really care if you hate AI and refuse to use it. But if you are on the fence or thinking it’s not for you, maybe learning that Dr. Dre and Linus Torvalds are using it will give you a little kick to check it out for yourself.
