Human capacity to adapt

Humans have an incredible ability to adapt. It has served us very well. I think most things can be answered with “because evolution”, so adaptation is a key trait. It’s also interesting because adaptation leads to boredom. No matter how pleasurable something is, if you do it all the time, you can get bored of it. That’s the negative side of adaptation. Overall, it can be argued that a human getting bored and then seeking change is a big driver of progress. So adapting, then getting bored, then changing is net positive. Knowing all of this, I try and live my life a few ways - 1. Pausing, reflecting on, and feeling gratitude for what I have. I try and remember that I am in a very lucky cohort compared to the rest of the world. 2. Traveling. Experiencing new places works two-fold: it opens my mind to how others live, eat, and enjoy themselves. And when I return I am just happy to be home.
