Concert Review: Starfucker at Santos Party House 9/23/09
Last night I went to see Starfucker with Isabel, Ruxy and Greg at Santos Party House. The big news is that Starfucker is changing their name! They announced it during the show a couple of times - “This is the last tour you’ll ever see us called Starfucker”. After the show, I went up to the drummer and asked him if they were serious. I said “The first time I heard it, I thought it might hold you guys back”. He said - “It is true. It has already held us back”. Apparently they are going to have a contest to pick the new name.
Anyway, back to the show. It was, as expected, amazing. The last time I saw them was at Mercury Lounge back in April. That time they played a bunch of new songs as well as everything off their first album. This time I knew all the new songs as they are all on the second album. They played all of them and a few from the first.
The venue was pretty cool. A little too much excess fake smoke but other than that the temp was cool, the sound was good and there were no lines at the bar. Most people knew the songs and there was a lot of dancing. The highlight was when the main singer Ryan jumped into the crowd and started dancing with everyone. That’s why I love small venues and bands that haven’t gotten too big.
