Concert Review: Phish at Jones Beach 6/4/09
The last time I saw Phish was June 2004 in Brooklyn. They called it quits a few months after that. Fast forward 5 years and they are back! As far as I can tell, they haven’t missed a beat.
Jones Beach can be one of the best venues on a nice summer night. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. It started drizzling before the show and didn’t stop until the intermission between sets. It didn’t bother me too much, but a) I knew what we were missing and b) it didn’t help my case to convince Isabel that Phish shows were the best. Isabel hates Phish, but agreed to go with me since she knew how much it meant to me to have her go to at least one show. Well, I never had a chance with the rain.
Despite Isabel hating it, I totally loved it. Throughout the show, I had tears in my eyes. Everyone around us was hugging and high-fiving, screaming how happy they were that Phish was back. I danced the entire show in total awe at what I was seeing. Over the past 5 years, I sort of forgot how awesome they were. Not anymore. They are the best.
